Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery in Cedar Mountain features local artist Don Zilleaux on Sat, August 15 from 2-4 PM.
Don is a woodworker specializing in fine woods such as cherry, walnut, and maple. His uniquely turned pieces include candlesticks, inlaid boxes, bowls, and lamps. His well-honed skill is evident in the velvet-like finish on each beautiful piece.
Come out to the gallery on Saturday, August 15th and watch Don demonstrate his craft while you enjoy light refreshments.

Well, I did get a chance to stop by on Friday, July 24th, right before the opening reception. And I can tell you, there are some wonderful pieces. Clay, Wood, Basketry, Paintings - and more - There’s a tall vase with a Crane - by Rick Compton/John Dodson - would look amazing in any environment - log cabin to the stately Biltmore House!

I had my not-so-great, yet trusty, digital camera, so these images are not nearly as clear as they should be and are in person. An excellent condiment set by Mary Murray - Elegant yet so functional. Clay. And, I really was smitten with the woven clay basket by Suzanne Jones - out of Mud Dabbers, as well —

“When golfing, caddies can really make a difference in a round. At one local course the caddies are making the rounds memorable. Llamas are caddying at Sherwood Forest Golf Course in Cedar Mountain, NC. Every Tuesday golfers can rent a llama for 9 holes to carry their clubs.

“Some say the llamas are the perfect caddies because they don’t critique your swing or say how bad your shot was. But if you are seeking advice, the owner of the llamas say by stomping on the ground the llama agrees with your club choice.

“The llamas have been at Sherwood Forest for the past two months and the owner, Mark English, is hoping to eventually use the llamas at other area courses. Mark says he came up with the idea on his own, but when researching how to do it, he found a golf course in Pinehurst, NC that has been using llamas for years.”

The llamas are rented for $40 and two people can share a llama.

LAND OF WATERFALLS ART GALLERY is proud to feature Pat Gorrow as Artist of the Month. Her work will hang in the gallery the month of August.

Pat began painting in 1996 after she retired from Commercial Interiors and Space Planning where she worked in house for her husband’s development company.

As a true beginner in watercolors, over the years she has developed her own creative style using mixed mediums. She studied under numerous instructors all over the US.

Pat paints in all styles from realistic to abstract–winning multiple awards for her work.
She conducts workshops in creative water media in NC and FL .

Cedar Mountain’s newest art gallery, Mountain Heart Photography Gallery, opens Wednesday, July 1 in the Cedar Mountain Business Park.

Hal Looney, nature and wildlife photographer and owner of Mountain Heart, states that “some of the most outstanding nature and wildlife photographers and photography teachers in America will be showing their work here”.

In addition, there will be special events, workshops, lectures and exhibits throughout the year. The gallery will also feature American historic crafts.

Mountain Heart Gallery will present Gary Carter, of McLeansville, NC, workshop leader and bird photographer; Charles Glatzer, of Horseshoe, NC, one of America’s most acclaimed wildlife photographers; Hal Looney of Cedar Mountain; Jack Looney of Charlottesville, VA, portraits of well-known entertainers; Gus Napier of Cedar Mountain, nature and architectural photography; Nancy Rotenberg of Pennsylvania, highly acclaimed teacher, writer, speaker and creative nature photographer; and Les Saucier of Weaverville, NC, teacher, workshop leader, and nature photographer.

Located next to Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery on Highway 276 south, 9.5 miles from Brevard, Mountain Heart will be open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 AM – 5PM, and by appointment.

On July 1, a special “Open House” will be held at the gallery, with refreshments served. The public is cordially invited.

(This is going to be a great addition to Scenic 276 - allowing anyone to take a bit of the mountain home with them or enhance your world with the awesome beauty of photography.)

Local Artist, Elaine Bailey, has been selected as the First Artist of the Month at Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery in Cedar Mountain, NC. Her work is on display July 1 - 31, 2009, in the gallery at Cascade Lake Rd and Scenic 276.

The public is invited to meet Elaine and watch her work from 10:30am - 12:30pm on July 4.

Elaine is a graduate of Antioch University, holds a lifetime art teaching credential in CA, has taught painting in two colleges and most recently taught a specialty workshop at UNC-Asheville.

Her passion for color is clearly evident in her work giving a recognizable vibrancy that makes the viewer feel awake and energized. Floral work is her preferred subject.

After moving to the mountains eight years ago, Elaine has become a prominent artist in the community and is an owner/member of the cooperative, Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery - located on the Scenic 276 corridor in Cedar Mountain, Transylvania Country, Brevard, NC
