I have been told it would be all right to let you see a couple of the waterfalls you can experience here at DuPont and I’ll give you the link to the Friends of DuPont Official Website at the end of this blog.

It’s an amazing place for hiking, biking — and yes, you can even bring your horse.

The two largest and most popular waterfalls are accessed by walking upstream of the popular Hooker Falls parking lot on Staton Road. Triple Falls is about a 7 minute walk upstream, though the main trail is quite steep as you approach the falls. And this photo was used by Friends of the Falls to convince Governor Hunt and the Council of State to protect the waterfalls of the Little River from private residential development. Let’s try for one more waterfall and then I’ll let you discover the other amenities of this incredible place through the website.

Here you have Bridal Veil Falls - unbelievable isn’t it?  You need to take a drive and come this one as well as the others in person.

The first falls of the Little River, Bridal Veil is probably the most unique. First, it drops off an overhanging ledge which allows visitors to walk underneath (as shown in Last of the Mohicans). Then the water sheets down a long, shallow inclined plane of granite before tumbling into the pool below.

DuPont State Forest

As part of the September Scenic 276 South Studio Tour, the Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery will conduct a special weekend experience featuring the artists working in the gallery/studio.  This feature event will take place Saturday, September 27th from 10 to 5, and Sunday, September 28th from 1 to 5.

The Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery opened its doors on June 28 this year and features two-dimensional painting, mostly originals, in a spacious three-room gallery. Classes are offered in a wide variety of media.

The gallery’s regular hours are Monday thru Saturday, 10 to 5, and Sunday, 1 to 4. The gallery is located in the Cedar Mountain Business Park at the corner of Highway 276 and Cascade Lake Road. For further information call 828-883-3830 or visit http://www.landofwaterfallsartgallery.com.

“GOT GRAVY” is the sign that greets you as you ramble on down past about the most well known toy store in the South, OP TAYLORS, http://www.optaylors.com/  and spot what I believe you will find to be the most delightful discovery  in all of Transylvania County, and maybe all of Western North Carolina as well.

Gravy, the brainchild of some pretty incredible women,  contains  treasures from the finest artists, folk artists and potters; shops; antiques; fishing lures; hand-woven rugs – bags and more; cotton loungewear; children’s clothes – hats – toys – socks; plants; and if you do wish to indulge in some well-deserved calories  - pretty amazing desserts!

What I find most unique about Gravy is that the profits go directly to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club here in Transylvania County.  So come on along and let me show you just a few things you will find when you walk through Gravy’s door.  Remember there’s much more, but you need to come on down to fully experience GRAVY.

A resident of Transylvania County since 1999, Margaret’s enjoyment of local history has led her to create pen and ink drawings of the current homes, historic buildings, and Architectural remains found in this area.  The Archives and History Committee of Connestee Falls commissioned her to do several of the relics and ruins of an old homestead found on their property.     

        Margaret also works in watercolor, capturing the beauty of the mountains in all season.  Recently she has expanded her interests to include collage and abstract painting.

        After graduating from Dennison University Margaret went on to work for the Michigan Council for the Arts where she created a program for teaching art appreciation in elementary schools.  This program is now being used throughout the country.

        Margaret is a founding member of FAWN Carolina and holds memberships in Henderson County and Connestee Falls Art Leagues.  Her work can be found in the Carolina Gallery and Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery.

       A native of Illinois, Rose Haynes resides in Pisgah Forest, NC.  Her artistic works are in pencil, ink, scratchboard, and Prisma colored pencils.

       Rose finds her subjects in her wooded surroundings.  Wild and domestic cats are some of her favorites.  Her pet portraits are created from photographs.

       Rose is a graduate of Illinois Central College with an Associate Degree in graphic design.  She served two years as president of Illinois Art League and was founder of Colored Pencil Art Group.  She is a member of Henderson County Art League, Highlands Art Guild, and has won awards at various shows.

Barbara hails from upstate New York where she studied fine art in high school and college.  During her working years she took the occasional art course, but since retiring she has studied in various media with numerous instructors including: Dorothy Moreau, Sue Byrne Russell, Dani Janov, Sue Connor, Frank Webb, Ann Vasilik, Sandra Moore, Elaine Bailey, Dr. Joe Robinson, Patricia Dennis, Patricia Gorrow, and Sue Tregay.

 Barbara’s art is inspired by her lifelong love of nature and is expressed through her painting, at times realistically and other times in abstraction.  She continues to work in watercolor, oil, and acrylic.

 Barbara’s professional affiliations include: Connestee Art League, Art League of Henderson County, Transylvania Art Guild, and Transylvania Arts Council.  Her work currently is shown at Land of Waterfalls Art Gallery, Cedar Mountain, NC, Heritage Gifts, Brevard, NC, and at various shows throughout the area.
